Afam Osigwe SAN, was born on the 25th of October 1972. He attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha for his secondary education before proceeding to the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus, to study law. He bagged his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1997 and was called to the Bar in September 1999. He started legal practice with Chike Chigbue and Co., Abuja Office in 1999 and left in 2002 to found his firm, The LAW FORTE (Legal Practitioners, Corporate Consultants, and Notary Public) in 2002.

In 2006 he became a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In 2007 he proceeded to the University of Jos for postgraduate studies and obtained a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) in 2010. In pursuance of his quest to diversify his legal practice and deepen his knowledge of alternative dispute resolution, he concluded a face-to-face tutorial at Keble College, Oxford, United Kingdom. He obtained a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration. He also passed the Fellowship programme of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) in 2011.

EDUCATION/CAREER LIFE

Mazi Afam Osigwe is a Ph.D. holder in Law and presently the Senior Partner of The law Forte which he founded in 2002.

He became a Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. In 2007 he obtained a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the University of Jos. He holds a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration and a Ph.D. from the University of Jos. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).

At various times he had had cause to carry out research in multiple areas of the law including Corporate and Business Law; Land law, Banking law, Intellectual Property; International Commercial Law, telecommunications, Energy, Oil and Gas Law; Domestic arbitration, International Commercial Arbitration. Similarly and In recognition of his sterling qualities as an advocate, he was conferred with the coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on the 14th, of December 2020. The coveted position of Senior Advocate of Nigeria(SAN), according to the Guidelines for the conferment, 2013, “is a privilege awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who : (a) are in full-time legal practice ;


(b) have distinguished themselves as advocates; and

(c) have made a significant contribution to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria.”

AN ACTIVE BAR MAN AT THE UNITY BAR ABUJA

As a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja (the Unity Bar), he had at various times had the privilege to serve in various committees such as the Law Reporting Committee, 2003-2005, Bar Dinner/Awards Committee, 2004, and Secretary, Committee on Continuing Legal Education, Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja, 2005-2007 and 2009 till 2010. He also had the honour of being part of the Executive Committee of the Unity Bar as the Publicity Secretary, from 2006-2008. He was the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja from 2011-2013, and Former General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association from 2014-2016
