#10 million Donated by A Member of House of Representatives in Ebonyi

A member representing Afikpo North/South federal constituency in Ebonyi State, Hon. Iduma Enwo Igariwey donates 10 million in Nairas to victims of fire outbreaks. This donation came just a few days after a fire outbreak was reported to have occurred in one Ekwu-Ukwu market located in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

According to an eye-witness who pledged anonymity, a disastrous fire gutted the Eke-Ukwu market on the 12th of July, 2022. While the cause of the fire was still largely unknown, many attributed its cause to the poor electrical connection. However, some traders suspected that some miscreants may have been targeting the burgeoning market and used the incident of the fire outbreak as a cover-up to loot goods and properties.

Traders lamented as they watched their goods worth millions in naira go down with the devastating inferno. Unfortunately, the market is said to be the only major market in the entire Eke-Ukwu community. Many indigenes and non-indigenes depended on the market for commercial activities. Sadly, the fire outbreak dealt a very big blow to many traders and visitors alike whose sources of livelihood were destroyed by the fire.

Reacting to the ugly incident, Hon. Iduma Enwo Igariwey, a Member representing Afikpo North/South Federal Constituency expressed shock over the ugly incident. Moreso, he expressed deep sympathy for the victims. Continuing, the Honourable decried the inefficiency of the Fire Service Station located in the village. According to him, the Authorities of the Fire Service failed to intervene citing the non-functionality of their trucks.

As a way of mitigating the losses of the traders affected by the fire outbreak, the Honourable pledged to donate the sum of #10 million Naira. This was gathered from the post he made on his official Facebook handle. He writes:

To mitigate the anticipated negative consequences of the Eke-Ukwu fire incident, the sum of N10,000,000( ten million naira only) will be donated by my office towards helping those mostly affected by this incident.

Consequently, one Facebook user Kingsly Ikoro while responding to the announcement said:

Highly commendable. Pls other well spirited individuals, corporate organizations, groups, Associations, clergies, religious bodies should emulate Okpudo for his magnanimity. Thank you sir!
